Need In-

home care for a loved one, the cheapest option may not be the best?

There are two fundamental options when looking for in-home care givers: independents or professional care giver agencies. Each is substantially different in how they staff and charge for services as well as who assumes the role of employer and the associated responsibilities of the employer. Independent Caregivers Independents are individual care givers and there are implications surrounding hiring an independent that should be considered before securing the relationship. The biggest ?plus? in hiring an independent is the hourly rate. While you might pay less, a lower hourly rate may not translate into the most cost efficient solution. If you secure an independent to provide inhome care, you are now the employer. That means you are responsible: ? for all employment taxes and deductions for your caregiver ? for securing the appropriate insurance coverage such as Workers? Compensation in case the caregiver is injured while providing care ? general liability insurance if the caregiver causes property damage. Most homeowner policies do not cover the expenses associated with an injury or damages sustained by a caregiver in your employ. In addition, it is important for your own safety and security that you procure appropriate background checks and certification of training. Beyond finance; ? Is there a backup if your caregiver is ill? ? Is the care giver properly trained and familiar with current standards ? A lower hourly rate can be attractive, but as you begin to understand the limitations of an independent caregiver, a lower rate does not always translate to a more cost efficient, or highest quality care solution. The Professional Caregiver Agency The greatest benefit to hiring a professional caregiver agency , is the supervision provided, convenience and financial responsibility. Additional distinctions are: ? they employ the caregiver and you are not burdened with the laws and requirements associated with being an employer ? rigorous background checks, interview process, and reference validation ? Workers? Compensation, general liability, and bonding insurance ? certified training and on-going education ? a large roster of caregivers are available for reliable backup ? ongoing supervision and involvement from the agency. In-home care is gaining momentum as the preferred care solution. Who wouldn?t prefer to stay in the privacy of their own home to maintain a level of independence? Today, there are more care options available to families, and in-home care can be that solution, but families need to ask the right questions. If you are seeking a care solution for yourself or someone you love, take control of the situation and look into the best solution to make life safer and easier at a time of greatest need.
